148. chrome review

i remember when i first started out yesterday. i downloaded it and i thought it was a desktop interface. because i saw from the screenshot a vista like look. and then i installed it and it does not seem very fast, as the webs claim to be.

so today, google chrome appeared in the straits times home page 1. i decided to try it out again because, who knows it might suddenly become faster.

so i tried it out. its still slow. and i also had a test to determine the speed of firefox 3 and of chrome. the test was to go to amazon.com, a site which i have never been to before.

firefox 3 took 9s to fully load. whereas chrome, after 1min15s has yet to even change the header. at 2min15s, the page turned white and the header changed to amazon header. but i turned it off because its like so slow, or at least i tried to turn it off... the close window button doesn't work. i was like, what the hell, and so dumbfounded. then i had to use task manager to get rid of that pesky crap.

so i was recommended to reinstall, which i did and try again but was still the same. until now, which i just switched it on again and found that it's normal. it's so sudden and surprising, so here i am blogging using google chrome.

anyway on to commenting on this browser. actually chrome lacks quite a lot of stuff. the interface only comes with blue color. and you cant even download themes from anywhere. so the bottom of my computer, the desktop taskbar is black, and windows xp lookish, while the top of my computer is blue and windows vista lookish.

also google chrome is just too simple. yes i know people loves simplicity. but this thing is simplicity gone overboard. you arent even allowed to get the toolbar and the bar at the bottom out. it's like a default safari, except safari is better because you can get the toolbars out. i suggest they looks into customisation in their next upgrade.

ok regarding it's speed, which is said to be a lot higher then other browsers.





however i feel that it's exaggerated. it's only a little faster. in addition, it lags once in a while, like when you just closed a tab and immediately click on another one.

in conclusion, all google chrome needs is to be customisable.
